The Government of Rajasthan issued an e-Tender to initiate a contract for the supply and
installation of computer systems, interactive board, UPS, and networking and electrification
in 5051 secondary and senior-secondary government schools in Rajasthan, India, with 5 years
on-site comprehensive warranty.

Information and communication technology (ICT) is considered an important element for
social transformation and an equally important, if not more, tool for education.

THE PURPOSE

The purpose of such a tender was to familiarise students with the use of workings of modern
technology like interactive whiteboards (IWBs), as well as, leverage on the power of ICTs for
teaching conventional subjects that get registered far effectively compared to conventional
teaching-leaning method.

The integrated approach to technology in education has prerequisites; it should be able to
provide

  • Engaging and immersive learning experiences
  • Free content for the curriculum
  • Focussed learning outcomes
  • Ease of creating and delivering instruction

In keeping with the vision, Cybernetyx strives to create a model to equip schools with
technology-based digital learning zones for students and teachers to maximise learning
outcomes for a smarter future which can be replicated in other schools in the city. The 5051
classrooms, selected by the Government of Rajasthan at various corporation schools, will be
equipped with interactive whiteboards, computer systems, and projectors to create smart
classrooms.

APPROACH

In order to equip students for success in a complex, ever-changing digital world and increase
the access to sophisticated technology solutions in rural areas, Cybernetyx won the bid to
install interactive whiteboard solutions in 5051 classrooms in Rajasthan.

Interactive whiteboard solution installed in the classrooms met all the requirements of the
tender, a few are listed below:

  • CNX’s interactive whiteboard solution is surface-independent, in fact, it’s a small device
(EyeRIS IX) that can turn any surface interactive when connected to a projection and computing system.
  • EyeRIS IX supports real-time interaction and the fastest writing speed without any time
lag. It has a tracking speed of 195 million dots/second.
  • It supports optical tracking with multi-touch functionality
  • Has precise auto-calibration as well as manual calibration features
  • Can use a 4:3, 16:9, or any other aspect ratio as required for projection
  • It comes with a super-capacitive stylus and finger touch functionality
  • Stylus does not need any batteries or consumables. It supports up to 3 hrs of standard
    usage
  • EyeRIS IX comes bundled with an initiative app-like software for teaching – Intellispace
  • The software supports Gesture Recognition like zoom, pan, tilt, flicks etc
  • Handwriting and shape recognition
  • Capability of taking Snapshot from running video
  • “Cloud Access” in Interactive Whiteboard Application to access filtered free educational
content on any topic in the world

IMPACT

Using the power of technology, the state government was able to upgrade the school life of
many students in Rajasthan. Some benefits of the project would be:

  • Direct interaction with the classroom through digital resources
  • Computer-based learning with a communal screen, not individual computers
  • Increased student motivation
  • Better student engagement and enhanced retention
  • Better learning for students
  • Application of modern technology for knowledge work and teaching
  • Immersive and enjoyable learning experiences with better outcomes

These digital classrooms significantly helped increase the attention span of students;
teachers maintain that there has been a reduction in absenteeism and school dropouts. It
has also improved student familiarity and comfort with technology. The digitally interactive
environment encourages even shy or hesitant students to participate better in classroom
discussions.

Dreaming of becoming a doctor when she grows up, Divya says, “At my previous school, all
the teachers used textbooks and blackboard to explain subjects. But in this school, we are
taught using videos, images and presentations. Learning is now more exciting and interesting.
This clearly indicates the programme’s acceptance and importance.”
